From Homo Sapiens to Homo Promptus: What Does It Mean to Evolve with AI?

Introduction

So we are going to discuss very quickly the why we are doing this and what for, what's going to happen when we get into a full AI ubiquity in the way we work.

So just very few concepts.

We have a few questions. We were preparing to have a conversation. But I think as we are a small group, we can have this conversation all together.

And after what we can do, Stefano, we will have the food.

Why AI Feels Different

Sometimes I ask, why is it so different? Why AI changed everything?

And I really like this interview of Bill Gates because I experienced the same, actually.

But Bill Gates obviously has a bigger, more intense career. And I've seen much more technology advancement and innovation than me.

Bill Gates’ Two Moments of Awe

But I remember in this interview, he said that in his long life, he had two moments of awe. It was one, it was in 1980 when he saw the first interface, the user interface that would make Windows the success we know and make, basically he saw that the computer would be accessible to everybody, not only engineers. And so that was his first wow moment.

And the second one was 42 years later in 2022, because he's in the board, obviously, as you know, of Microsoft and OpenAI. So he saw in a private demonstration of an early version of JGPT-4. So he was in a room with other business leaders and philanthropists like him.

They were very impressed that GHGPT-4 correctly answered 59 out of 60 advanced biology questions. And the LLM was not even trained at that level.

Beyond Technology: Human Connection

But what was really amazing is they asked a humanist question after. They asked GHGPT-4 what should say a father to a sick child. And the answer, according to Bill Gates, was the best answer they could even imagine. So this is why you realize this is something more than technology.

It's not about numbers. It's not about prediction models.

But it's about human connection. It's about feeling, emotions, all the things that are very human. And we didn't expect this technology to replicate and to emulate.

Homo Promptus: How AI Changes Us

And this is also the consideration we had when we thought about Homo Promptus, is something is changing in us, and it's gonna change more and more, and it's not only about our tech savviness and our technology skills. It's basically, it's gonna change the way we think,

New Cognitive Skills and Ways of Working

we look at problem, we reason, and it's clearly an amplifier of intelligence. It's an evolution in a way that we are going to develop new cognitive skills And we are going to work with AI in a way that we never work with other humans as well.

From Individuals to Organizations

And it's going to impact not only ourselves as an individual, but also as an organization.

Learning to Work With AI

So very quickly, and this, by the way, is an image I created through Gamma. That was one of the first images I created with Gamma.

Why One-Size-Fits-All Prompting Fails

But I've seen a lot of prompting training. And I was always dissatisfied because I don't think we are going to learn to use AI all in the same way.

We are starting from a different places and basically AI is going to transform us in a very different way. We are going to all reach some probably already reached out AI fluency or AI mastery, but guess what? We are going to work this in a very different way.

And why is because we are going to augment ourselves in a different way because we are different aspirations. And even in our work today now, we are not using what we call our professional sense in the same way.

Five Professional Senses

So we try to map at MomoPromptus the professional sense in five categories, analyze, design, decide, create, and improve. And behind this one, there are postures. There are even tools, but especially there are prompt techniques, which are evolving over time, that are much more relevant if you want to excel in analyze, in design, in decide, or create and improve.

A Concrete Example

I give you a very concrete example.

My partner in the co-founder is more geek than me. He's more in the technology side. I come from the consulting side, the business side.

And we are both using AI day and night. for two or three years now.

But he's more into the analytical, modernization, and so on. His way, not only tools, of sophisticated way, his fluency is very different than mine.

which is much more conversational mind. It's long conversation, it's brainstorming with three or four LLM.

We are very developing different skills.

Ten Transformative Principles

And this, I'm going very fast, but these are the 10 transformative principles we develop, and what we call that non-negotiable principles.

What we have in Nomopromptus is, We know the problem is non-negotiable. The principle is non-negotiable, even the hard question.

What is negotiable is how you are going to apply this principle in your environment, because we all have different constraints, different preferences, different priorities.

Two Illustrative Principles

I give you very, for the sake of time, two examples.

From Wow to "I Can Do This Now"

One is 2from wow to I can do this now. So we all had this one moment, like Bill Gates, probably when you had the first mobile on your smartphone, on your phone, or for those of my generation, when you saw internet the first time. But these are very passive technology, I would say, old moments. nothing really happened in your brain.

But when you digest all these wild moments and you start putting in perspective what this could bring you and how you can go, you start removing some psychological and mental barrier that you build for years. And like it happened to me, you wake up in the middle of the night and you say, I'm registered here.

I cannot say the half world. I can do this now. And you start doing things on areas as well you couldn't even imagine to go.

And this is your start being a number prompter.

AI-First Instinct

And another one is AI first instinct. So what we do most of the time, because it's quite human, is we rely on AI when we are stuck, when we need help, but when we feel very confident whatever the five professional senses, you think that you don't need AI. And this is the first mistake.

So when we say AI first instinct, it's AI all the time. It's your cognitive partner. Now, should you always start with AI and asking AI to do the first step? Probably not. Depends on which professional senses.

But don't wait to get stuck. because maybe you already climbed the wrong tree. And so these are principle that are non-negotiable because we know the consequence when you don't do that.

When you don't do AI first instinct, you get stuck with AI is gonna approve a wrong idea, a wrong initiative. It's gonna be better, something that doesn't make sense. You didn't question some hypothesis, you didn't test some assumption, and AI could have given you a better picture.

From wow to I can do this now, if you don't work out how you move from the passive reaction to technology to something much more in-depth into your cognitive thinking, it's gonna be just gadgeting. You're just going to react on functionalities and you're not going to put a strategic thing in all that.

Automation vs. Augmentation

So there is something as well is quite important for us especially is what we hear a lot in the news, even in conference as well, because it's basically the tech vendor narrative. They want really to put a focus on the benefit of automation, which are real. We know the numbers.

It makes you the cost saving. We know that now is quite important with all this trade war. and time efficiency.

This is the first level of benefit and advantage you see in AI. But if we stop there, we are missing the point.

Climbing the Pyramid of Value

And this is the mindset of automation, which is unfortunately not compatible with the mindset of augmentation, which provide opportunities to increase quality and consistency of the quality, better strategic decisions, opportunity for boosting creativity and innovation, and there create a higher level of value and customer satisfaction.

So these actually, the top layers of the pyramid are rarely discussed in companies. But actually, it should be the first steps how to get there.

And it's just that a plus.

Open Questions and Discussion

So I just want to throw a concept because we are going to discuss some questions with Stefano and probably with you as well.

Evolving Cognitive Functions

You know how your cognitive functions can evolve, which one we are going to outsource, the one we enhance. I have my personal view on that, but probably we can discuss that with some food because it's difficult to present when you see the food coming.
