Stack Smarter: Building Human-Centered AI Workflows

Introduction

I'm just going to have this up just for reference.

I know Lennox was talking about chat. It's all good.

I'll tell you a little bit more about how I use chat.

About the Speaker

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Crystal Leakes.

I work for Robert Half. As Marcus stated, I'm a program manager at Robert Half for their learning and design team.

Role and Focus on Practical AI

I help with different departments learn about AI and how they can use it in a practical way. For instance, I will go in, use certain use cases, identify ways that they can use it to work more efficiently, and also collaborate it with different tools.

What Is AI Stacking?

So what I want to talk about today is AI stacking. It's a term that kind of helps with the workflow for AI. And AI stacking is using multiple AI tools to get an ultimate outcome.

A Pulse Check on Tool Usage

But before we start with AI stacking, I kind of want to get a pulse check. How many of us use multiple tools on a day-by-day basis with AI? Raise of hands. A lot of you, I see.

So when you use these multiple tools, are you using them together or on separate types of projects? Yes, no. Yes? No? Sometimes? Maybe? OK.

From Multiple Tools to One Project

Well, I'm going to be teaching you all how to use them for one singular project. But before we dive into AI, I want to dive into something that has nothing to do with AI at all.

Systems Thinking Foundations

And that is systems thinking. OK? 1So systems thinking is when you think of a holistic picture of an overall outcome.

From that overall outcome, you then dive into the different processes that they have. From those processes, you develop different tasks. Those tasks actually help you identify which AI tools you should utilize based off of the features and what you want that outcome to be.

So again, that is systems thinking. Remember that as we go forward.

Choosing Your AI GOAT

So now just going into our AI stack, I know that I heard a few people talk about ChatGPT. I want to talk about what I consider our AI GOATs. When you're starting your AI stack, you start with your AI GOAT.

And that's the greatest tool of all time there. And what I mean by that is it's just a tool that you would create ideas, strategize, and come up with different concepts with. So my GOAT for AI is always going to be ChatGPT, some like Claude, some like Gemini, some like Perplexity, but it's all about your preference of whatever you want that outcome to be.

The Five-Step AI Stack Method

1After you identify your GOAT GPT, you then go into what I consider a five-step method for your AI stack.

Step 1: Identify the Outcome

OK, so with that five step method, it starts off with what we just talked about with systems thinking. That's identifying the outcome. That's step number one.

Step 2: Define the Audience

Next, after I identify the outcome, I go to step number two, which is who's my audience? Is it for me? Is it for others? Is it for who?

Step 3: Pick Your GOAT Tool

OK. After you do step number two, step three should come a little bit easy, because it's just trying to figure out who is your goat. If you always go to a particular AI tool to begin with, then you should know who your goat is.

Step 4: Identify Tools to Stack

The next step is a little bit more complex. It's identifying those tools to stack. The way that you identify these tools to stack, it can seem a little bit intimidating, but I'm going to give you a little tip here.

Researching Tools: There’s an AI for That

I utilize this site called There's an AI for That. I love this site because it's a huge database full of different AIs. It breaks it down based off of different categories, it tells you what they're used for, and it even gives you reviews on those AI tools. I love it, I use it, and it also gives you updates on a day-to-day basis, okay?

Okay? There you go.

Step 5: Review and Iterate

Following identifying our AI tool, we go to step number five.

And that step number five is to review and iterate. So that's the five-step method for using AI stacking.

Live Demo: Building an OSHA Orientation with AI

So with that, I'm going to kind of give you a real-life demo.

The Use Case: A Window Company Scaling Up

So the other day I was having a conversation with my cousin. He's in a trade. He does windows.

And I was like, OK, I love your company. Tell me more. And he was like, well, I would never use AI.

I said, oh, I hear what you're saying. Tell me more.

So he told me that he was actually starting a new contract, which would then cause for him to have a lot more workers. I said, pretty cool.

Do you have a new employee orientation, SOPs? Do you have a budget for this? He kind of looked at me with a side eye, and I was like, OK, clearly you don't.

I said, but with that, no, sorry about that, y'all. I said, but with that, I can kind of help you out here, OK?

I can help you design a new employee orientation by stacking. And he was like, whatever, Crystal. Of course, he didn't hear me out, but I'm going to use it as our use case today.

Applying the Five Steps to the Use Case

So with that being said, I'm going to start with our five step method. I know what my outcome is. I need to create a new employee orientation. But let me break it down a little bit more.

That new employee orientation has to have a process. So what's the process? It's OSHA. He needs to have an OSHA regulated new employee orientation.

I'm going to break it down just one more step so that we can then have the tasks that are oriented. That task is a presentation for a new employee orientation on OSHA. OK, so you see how I did my systems thinking to get to that task.

Now I'm going to go ahead and after I identify my task, I see who is my audience. My audience are the new employees. All right. They need this in order to start work.

Step 3: Start with the GOAT (ChatGPT)

Second, the third thing that I do is start with my GOAT. So I'm going to start with ChatGPT. I've already set up a few prompts just going over some of the stuff that I would be talking about today.

Step 4 Tools: Leonardo AI and Gamma

Before I go into chat GPT, I do want to tell you all the AI stack that I'll have for step number four. And that stack includes Leonardo AI, which is an image generating AI. Basically, the reason why I choose Leonardo is because it's very consistent with its image generation.

One thing that a lot of people don't know is when you're getting those ugly compliance trainings, I create them. But when you get those trainings, it takes so long to source those images. I'm talking about days. We even hire different contract workers just to source images sometimes, okay?

And with that being said, I can now create scenarios based off of my prompt in a matter of seconds. Following that, I'm going to tidy this all up and put in a pretty presentation on Gamma. So let me go ahead and get started with this demo.

Prompting the GOAT for Image Generation

So the first thing I'm going to start off with is going into my goat, who is Chad. And I'm going to start with my Leonardo prompt. Very basic prompt that I have here, create a prompt for Leonardo AI, for a new employee orientation for a window company that shows realistic workers putting up windows and are OSHA compliant.

So this is the prompt that it gave me. I'm just going to do a quick copy paste.

And one thing I do want to say about my goat is it's kind of like your anchor. You're going to be going back and forth to your goat whenever you're doing AI stacking.

So let me just copy. It just changed darker, that's all. And then I go to Leonardo.

Tips on Trials, Tokens, and Subscriptions

Now, one thing I want you all to also understand is that you do have options to try a lot of these AI applications for free. But if you want more tokens so that you can really test it out, you do have to purchase a subscription. Before you purchase that subscription, I highly suggest that you try your AI tools, go on There's an AI for That, see the different reviews, and see if it's something that actually fits what you're trying to do.

So now I'm going to go under image so that I can generate the image for this.

Sorry, y'all. I'm clicking. Let me refresh.

Why Leonardo for Consistent, Realistic Images

Because ChatGPT does not create consistent images. Unfortunately, I can put in a prompt in chat, the images aren't as realistic for me. They are trying to get better, but one thing that I have noticed with Leonardo is that I can create multiple images and they all have the same consistency. the look, the fingers, the way that the people act.

So I can give a prompt like kind of in motion and it's a step-by-step scene and it can have the same character. And in a matter of seconds, like I said, I will then generate the images that I need.

Bringing It Back to ChatGPT for Slides

Okay, and I'm just going to upload. All right, so I have my images. I'm just going to go ahead and download them. so that I can then go to my ChatGPT again, and I have a prompt specific for my PowerPoint.

And remember, I said that we used to hire contractors to do this. Now, I'm not saying that we're taking people out of work, because if you remember in the very beginning, I talked about systems thinking. The main thing that I'm asking any of these AI tools to do is to do the task within that system. So if I think from that larger perspective and break it down, we're the ones creating the system. We're the ones looking over the processes for what can be repeated. And then in the end, I can delegate those tasks to some form of AI.

From Outline to Actual Deck

So when I originally asked Chat for a PowerPoint, I basically said create a PowerPoint for a window company, new hire orientation that shows their OSHA compliant content. This PowerPoint should be only four pages long. And what Chat gave me was this. Okay, it's an outline, it's a layout, but this ain't a PowerPoint.

So I'm like, okay, what can I do with this? I see that it gives me some tips, but I need more than this. So then I started talking to chat a little bit.

It's like, hey, would you like me to generate this as a downloadable PDF? I mean, as a PowerPoint? And I'm like, yeah, that was what the original request was.

So I downloaded this information and I'm just gonna show you how this looks. so that you can understand what tool is perfect for what. Now, yes, you can get a PowerPoint. You can also iterate, make it so that ChatGPT gives you a little bit more context to this PowerPoint.

But just off the bat, I get this. It's not that interesting, not that intriguing. I don't know if you would go to sleep on this training.

I know me personally. I would need more. I want to see the logos. I want to see the colors. I want to see the different scenarios that are out there.

So what do I do? Well,

Upgrading the Deck in Gamma

What I'm going to do is I'm going to show you how to upload this PowerPoint layout into Gamma, which is a PowerPoint presentation tool. There are a lot of PowerPoint presentation tools, but I find Gamma is very good, especially for corporate. So I'm just going to go to Gamma.

Go to Create New. And then all that I have to do since I downloaded that information is upload the file. Once I upload the file, Gamma's going to ask me a few questions so that I can go ahead and just kind of figure out what this may need to be.

Mind you, this used to take hours. And it used to take a very long time to create a layout or a PowerPoint layout the way that you like.

So now Gamma has already uploaded the information. It's telling me that there are four cards total that I would be having. And I'm just going to condense it a little bit by making it more concise.

From there, I'm just looking at what did it state that this would be about. It's giving me kind of a little bit of context that is for new hires, for a window company. It tells me the tone. And then it shows the theme.

Now, you can either have a customized theme that you upload or you can choose from their standard themes, which I'm just going to go to one of their standard themes. I like this one because green is my favorite color.

And next thing that I'm going to do is just generate this information. Now, again, in a matter of minutes, it is going to generate this content.

Polish, Context, and Visuals

Of course, you still have to go through, update the content, make it more of your own, give it a little bit more context and style. But at the end of the day, you have a beautiful presentation for what you need within that system.

Completing the Stack: ChatGPT + Leonardo + Gamma

Okay, now one of the things that I will do is I'll update these images and that will show you the complete AI stack for what I have. So I started off with chat, GPT is my goat, went in, got images off of Leonardo, and then I followed that up by putting those images into Gamma. And I always refer back to chat so that I can communicate with it to make sure the outcome is exactly what I need.

All of this is incorporated in systems thinking. So after I see how this looks, I'm like, yeah, these people look okay, but this looks a little fake to me.

So what I'm going to do is select this image, go here, upload, and then I'm just going to get something from the file that we uploaded from Leonardo. I think I like this one. And I'm just going to upload that image so that it can then show there.

You can always make the image have any of the logos. You can update the prompts, whatever you may need, and add that content here into your Gamma presentation.

Outcome: An OSHA-Compliant Orientation

So with that, I now have created a OSHA orientation for my cousin's business. Something he said he didn't think that he needed, but I did it all with AI.

So that is my piece.

Conclusion and Self-Work

But I do want to leave you all with a little bit of self-work.

Practice Systems Thinking Daily

The self-work has nothing to do with AI. It's actually systems thinking.

I want you all to look at things that you do on your day to day, personal and professional, all of that. Group it into different systems. And after you group it into those systems, then think about the processes that come with it.

Delegate, Eliminate, or Automate

Following that, think about those tasks. After you look at those tasks, figure out if you can delegate, eliminate, or automate. You can use different AI tools for this.

And if you need any help, some of you know me. If you don't, look me up.

Parting Thoughts

But at the end of the day, I want you all to just kind of think before you use AI. Thank you.
