Good evening, everyone. I am, hey, I am Rachel Hill.
And I built a digital publishing brand, an adult coloring book company, in under 30 days using generative AI.
So just a little bit about me. I am an email marketing and email and lifecycle marketing expert. So lifecycle marketing is the text messages that y'all get from Shin and Fashion Nova, the in-app notifications, those sorts of things.
And I'm also an AI enthusiast.
So playing around with ChatGPT, I created a coloring book brand.
and I am going to share with you how I was able to do it. Now, it did take me a few weeks, four weeks to do it, but I am going to show you how I broke it down in three different phases.
So phase one is the ideation phase. And then in phase two, I validated it. And then in phase three, which is my area of expertise, is the marketing phase.
So based on my idea, how did I research it and validate it?
Now based on the time, I won't be able to dive in as deeply, but I will show you what's possible with ChatGPT.
Now before we get started, I want to just share the end product. So this is Coloring Kinfolk, so an adult coloring book based on Black American nostalgia and experiences.
The idea is that we can scale this to Hispanic American experiences, Asian American experiences. But I've only been Black American my whole life, so I just started with what I know.
So the first thing that I did as a marketer was I needed to do some market research to make sure that I think my idea is a good idea, but what does the actual market say about it? And so I came up with this prompt. that says, you are a market research expert.
Provide in-depth audience and competitive analysis for the adult coloring book market, specifically focusing on digital coloring pages, printable pages, cozy interiors, luxury rooms, women around the world, and black American culture.
I wanted to include the top keywords in the SEO behavior. I wanted to include the customer demographics and the psychographics.
I wanted the average spend and buying frequency. I wanted to look at what my competitors are doing and offering.
I wanted to look at the pain points of this audience and what will motivate them. Let's look at some trends and then I also just wanted to look at some recommendations for being a little bit different in the market.
So I'm not going to run the prompt because it took about 11 minutes to generate this report. But as you can see, I have a report that validated my ideas.
So I saw that adult coloring book pages, a free adult coloring PDF are words that I can use in my marketing. I also validated who colors. So initially it was this demographic from the ages of 18 to 29, but then there has been an expansion among,
younger adults and seniors so we've seen that after the pandemic people getting back into these cozy hobbies and then also we are seeing that people are tired of social media they're tired of their phones and so people are getting back into doing puzzles and coloring and again these cozy hobbies So with this information, and we can just show you a little bit more.
So again, I'm able to validate the price point in the marketplace. Again, I can see that it's validated.
Just colored pencils alone is $128 million industry alone. So they got to be coloring something, right?
And so I'm using all of this information to not only validate my ideas, but use it a little bit later for marketing.
And so this is just how we started with phase one. So doing some deep research, validating our ideas, and then seeing where we can take it a little bit deeper.
Now, in phase two, this is actually where we created our prompts. So I'm skipping a few steps, but I also asked ChatGPT, based on this information, let's come up with some themes.
I went to an HBCU, so I wanted a homecoming theme book. We're in homecoming season.
Sunday dinner is something that is very iconic in black American culture, grandma's house. So I wanted some themes that really resonated with black American culture.
So this is just, again,
It will take a few minutes to generate a image, but I used a simple prompt that says the theme is a black marching band practicing under stadium lights.
The character, I put no characters, but we got characters, but it's all good. And so this is just one of the results.
1The style is adult coloring book line with easy lines. Again, I got that from my deep research. People like easier lines versus more intricate lines for adult coloring when it comes to relaxation.
And then, of course, I wanted black and white.
I know the size, so when I go into production, I know that the size of my page needs to be 8.5 by 11.
We also have some physical copies and some crayons if you guys want to look a little bit later.
And then the last piece of this is the marketing phase. And this looks like this may be a little
little complex if you are not a marketer however this is what we will call in the marketing world a customer journey so when a customer comes into your brand sometimes that looks like when we're shopping online give me your email or your phone number so we can send you a coupon sometimes it looks like a lead magnet so give me your email then I can give you some free coloring pages
And so that's what we call the top of the funnel. And then it will go down with our emails and how do we educate people?
How do we keep them really interested in our product? How do we offer more products and services?
And so from a marketing perspective, it would typically take a marketer maybe days, if not weeks, to develop a customer journey because we need to analyze, again, what are our entry points? What do we need to say within each of these emails to start building that know, like, and trust factor?
1Where can we do over here what's called a tripwire? So after you sign up, sometimes you may get a one-time offer. That's called a tripwire.
And then even it built out where we would make the sale And it even added things like how we would tag our customers throughout the journey.
So again, as a marketer, what I was able to do is create several different entry points and test it and see what worked to create this profitable brand using ChatDVD in less than 30 days.
Do I have any questions? But if you have any questions, yes.
This is my website, AI Made This Brand. This is our link tree. But it's our link tree and then also the link to our coloring book website.
One second here. If you have your phones, this is much easier.
Let me know if it works. I didn't test it, I'm gonna be honest. I didn't test it before I got here.
Well, I use ChatGPT because it is the most popular LLM on the market. I only use ChatGPT because most people know it.
I don't necessarily think it would be the best for this, but I used it to validate an idea.
And I also have a YouTube channel where I show you how I built the entire thing from zero to, from soup to nuts, from ideation all the way to monetization.
Any other questions?
the images in the JackDVT, was it something that you had to recreate images? So I would say what I did was fine tune the prompt. So I found that creating themes, saying I want characters, I don't want characters, and then also being specific about the lines made it more consistent.
I will say there were a few times I had to massage it. It might have been a few extra legs or something like that. But in that case, you just go back in and iterate a few more times.
Sure.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Are you only selling through your website?
So we are on Amazon. I forgot to bring the physical books, but we are on Amazon. So we're on both platforms.
We have physical books. So again, through our validation, we saw that some people like printouts, and then some people like physical books.
And we also have printables on Etsy.
Yes. Any other questions? Yes, ma'am. Absolutely.
So essentially what you do is create a PDF with the inserts and with your cover. You fill in your, you know, about your book, your authorship, all of that. And then when someone buys, they fulfill it. So it's like print on demand.
Any? Yes.
I'd be curious to hear more about what your top funnel marketing looked like. Like how did you initially raise kind of brand awareness and pull people into that?
Sure.
So doing the deep research, I saw that free printables was like the almost the only way to get people inside of this. Mostly because I think people want to see what it will look like or what the coloring vibe will be before they make that investment. So definitely based off of the deep research.
And then also Pinterest is the other huge platform for Cozy hobbies so again doing a competitive analysis seeing what other coloring brands are doing and everybody's doing the freebie.
So yeah Mm-hmm their lead magnet like get three free pages or something like that I Would say the most frustrating part is
Well, let me say this.
I think the most fun part is actually creating the pages, right, to see the end result. But I think the frustrating part, especially if you are not a marketer, is understanding what's next.
So even though I shared the customer journey, if you're not deeply into marketing, you may not even know what a customer journey is. I will say, though, that chat does ask you what's next or suggest, do you want me to create a content strategy or something like that?
But I would say probably developing the actual marketing funnel, deciding which coloring pages would I offer that are free, and then also how do you make enough profit to make it worth your time as well.
So even on YouTube, we do a monetization strategy. I'll show you how to do that with AI.
If I want to make $2K a month, what do I need to price all my products at and then place in this customer journey in order to reach that.
If you don't want to upskill, I would ask chat DBT, act as if you are a marketing strategist and help me with the next steps, what I need to do. So I don't think you need to upskill or take the time. You can actually just use AI as a tool to help you. At least that's how I would do it to save time.
Yes.
So I actually don't have a marketing expense. It's all been quite organic, which I will have a marketing expense, but right now it was more so just doing something to prove that what you could do with AI.
But I will say because it's validated, we've been getting some sales within like a month and a half. And because this is validating the few sales that we do have, I do plan to create some sort of paid ad strategy on Pinterest though.
Yes.
This store has only been up for a month and a half. But yeah, we've only been up for about a month and a half.
It says 10 months because I used another Etsy account. And it took me about three and a half, four weeks to build the whole brand.
Yes.
No.
So I trained my chat GPT on my voice. So I have speaking engagements and other things that I've written. So I've uploaded that and it uses my voice.
I also asked chat to create what's called a brand identity document for this. So as an example, we don't say, hey, friend, but we say, hey, cousin, like if you open our email. The whole thing should feel cohesive and have a brand language. But the brand language is a mix of my conversation and what you would say to your family, as an example.
So
Any other questions?
All right, well, I appreciate y'all. Thank you.
