Closing the AI Skills Gap for Non-Technical Students

Introduction

So first of all, thank you very much for being here today, also for Michael for organizing this. Maybe a quick look through the room.

I see a lot of mature faces, so maybe people under 25 can raise their hands. Maybe some years ago.

Okay, so maybe you cannot really relate to the topic, but I think everyone can understand it because it impacts all of our lives. lives.

Why “Generation AI” Now

And Generation AI, our slogan is we want to shape talent for an AI -native future. What does that mean?

I mean, nowadays, for example, in my case, I don't remember a day where I haven't used AI for something. I mean, nowadays, even Googling, writing emails, researching something, it is part of our lives, and it's especially also part of the business life

AI Is Everywhere—Including Work

of a lot of companies and when we looked at that topic of course you see a lot of headlines about it especially about corporations firing thousands of people and of course it can be scary for especially young people like me who are currently finishing their studies going into the junior positions and we are of

From Job Loss to Job Transformation

the opinion that AI is not deleting jobs, but more transforming them. Of course, economic, geopolitical and social things are having an impact on jobs. AI, of course, is one of them.

But you can see it, for example, for McKinsey, integrating AI testing into the interview processes.

Meta grading employees on how much AI they have used. I mean, the typical example of startups how many tokens have you used today and isn't always the best case because tokens for example don't really show how much of an impact you had but companies are seeing the need for AI and especially when it

The Implementation Gap in Companies

comes for the implementation and what we saw based on a study from Bain and company and from a germany association is that ceos are thinking about ai but they don't really know how to implement it i think michael have a very good perspective on it working with ceos

Key Barriers: Time, Skills, and Adoption

of course the biggest barriers at least in germany but i think in other countries it's the same thing lack of time of course lack of skilled workers as ai skills are not really thought in university in in a sense, and how you use it, because also most of the jobs nowadays, technical jobs, are not really from a technical perspective, so you also need AI skills for non -technical

What Students Are Actually Doing with AI

jobs, and also when you see the student perspective, we surveyed 100 students about this topic And we also saw, as we have thought about it, that most of people using AI daily, but, and now comes the case, where we come in, they only use it for simple use cases. So, writing an email, asking what's the weather today, what time it is, whatsoever.

Heavy Usage, Mostly Simple Use Cases

And we also saw that the initiative joining such a community is there, because you have enough knowledge online. You have events such as Mindstones, you have YouTube videos, you have Reels, you have blog posts.

The Missing Piece: Community and Momentum

But people want to have a feeling of community, sharing their thoughts, sharing their projects, and also creating some kind of FOMO when you see what kind of website you can build in six hours or what kind of agent you can build up in a day. And that's what we're trying to create.

The Solution: A Cross-Discipline AI Community

And that's our solution.

Open, Not University-Bound—and Not Just for Tech

We want a built -in community, especially not university -based, so everyone can join, and especially not focusing on a specific area of studies.

So we have a lot of business students, also some lawyers, some doctors, as everyone uses AI nowadays. And of course, going beyond the continent, of course, we focus on Germany especially,

Early Traction and Partnerships

but we have 250 members in the first 24 hours we launched last Monday from 11 countries and also already 15 speakers in our pipeline because we are also

talking with some some people and some companies that could be interesting in our case especially consulting firms as they are using it a lot but with the

typical companies like lovable and creandum we are seeing the traction that we were hoping for and that we also approved with with some talks um and yeah maybe to give you a bit but some faces to

The Team Behind the Initiative

our team so we have 10 students working across different areas different backgrounds different connections we came at some point we were standing in a in a metro in barcelona talk talking about that topic and our our co -founders Jana and Simon were asking us guys do you want to join we are

trying to build a community and one month later we are standing here and trying to trying to build something that really has an impact on the students and maybe to give you a kind of sense

How the Community Works in Practice

on how that looks like and maybe some of some of you know circle it's a kind of a system like like Discord, where you can meet up in different channels. And what we're trying to build is, yeah, different channels about different topics. So we, of course, we have our general channel.

Channels, Tooling, and AI Agents

We also built two agents working on our website, giving some insights about tools in different kinds. And we have one agent working in our community, asking and answering questions about different topics.

we actually launched it last I think two days ago still worked in a sandbox but it was really interesting to see the development of it and how nice it actually works right now of course we try to give some some insights about news building our showing our events with different actors

Events, Talks, and Hands-On Inspiration

For example, next week we have a talk with Lisa Emma, co -founder of a financial startup going to San Francisco in some months.

Of course, not forgetting the fun stuff, for example, one of our workers at the Factorial event where the co -founder was talking about how they want to change the company to a bunch of AI builders as it's nowadays so easy to build something.

And that's what we try to achieve.

Invitation and Closing

We would be very happy also to connect with some people. I think a lot of you are AI enthusiasts. Maybe you know some people that could be interesting. Maybe you want to join.

Maybe some of you still have your old university email address. but it would be very happy and thanks to all of you for listening today
