The Importance of play in AI
The talk will be co-presented by myself representing Mercantile Accounting and Jarred, representing BI Branch, our technical partner. The talk is around how we were motivated by the AI makers' ethos and events like Mindstone to play with AI, the importance of play in the formation of companies like Apple, Microsoft, Dell, etc. I then tell a fun hacking anecdote from when Jarred was a teenager to give him character, and we launch into a description of what we built and a live demo while explaining how inherently unprofitable it is and how we just think it's cool and fun. The tool we built is essentially a chat interface for people to query their company's data. everything from prompting it to graph revenue against web traffic month on month to asking it to raise a draft dividend note to asking it how they performed against industry averages. Our clients are apprehensive from a data protection perspective, and thats ok because we are just running it on our data, dummy data and don't care about making money from this. It is just interesting. In line with the spirit of Mindstone, we want more focus on the narrative and the value of play, rather than what we specifically built.
